Fixed wheel conversion on a budget |
At the front… I've taken off the small ring and moved the large ring to the inside to shift the chain across. I'm using Shimano A515 pedals. Clipless are a good idea on a fixed wheel as toe clips are rather hard to get into! |
At the back…. I've swapped the freewheel for a fixed sprocket. I changed the long axle spacer on the freewheel side for two shorter ones, one each side. Minimal re-dishing then gave a perfect chainline. Lock ring not needed as sprocket has no tendency to unscrew. |
To the right are before and after pictures. Components removed: Campag Rally derailleur, 5 speed Suntour freewheel, Weinmann rear brake and inner chainring, several chain links and downtube shifters. I have recently sold the derailleur for £24, so I'm about £19 up on the conversion. |
