Brompton Mods

I bought a Brompton second hand for £60 about ten years ago.  I originally bought it as a commuting folder, but it has evolved over the years into an all purpose touring bike that can travel with me anywhere.

I have modified the gears from three speed Sturmey Archer AW3 to 12 speed (2 front sprocket x 2 rear sprockets x 3 hub gears) with a range wide enough to cope with Swiss mountain passes (really!).

I have also replaced the very upright bars with a set of drop bars that give the bike the feel of a rigid bike.

Of course, folding is still important and, thanks to its fitting in a 24 inch suitcase my Brompton can travel abroad with me by air as well as in cars, trains and buses.

Follow the links below to find out more, and visit my Brompton Abroad page for some examples of where this bike has taken me.
